Bypass the Any Date in Search bar

Hi Sanjeev,

All of our products (tours) are available all year round and are all ‘Simple products’. (We don’t need ‘variable products’.)

At the moment, the search bar on the index page will not respond to the individual months (‘Any Date’ box).

Question: would it be possible to add an attribute to a Simple product so we could add the months (= all the months in a year)?

What would this attribute need to be called? I tried adding ‘start_date’ (with values ‘jan | feb |’ etc) but that didn’t work.

If this is not possible, is there a way to ‘skip’ this filter altogether, i.e. keeping the full search bar as it is on the homepage but bypassing this particular value? (So any month selected would display all tours.)

Thanks,

Stone

Hello there,

You can remove the search field on home page via pages itself. If you go to pages >> home in the backend and edit the page, you will see “Search Block” and you can remove the line for search block from there.

“Attributes and Variations” are only available on variable products through woocommerce, so I am afraid this is not available on simple products.

You can remove the filters as well - can you please share screenshot of which template you are using for search result, and I will help with that.

Thank you

Hi,

Thanks. Just to be absolutely clear: I do not want to remove the ‘Any Date’ filter, I want it to keep it and show on the page because it looks good:)

I just want to bypass it (= switch off its function): so whatever month the user selects, it will produce the same results. (All of our products are available all year round.)

If you can tell me how to bypass the ‘Any Date’ filter, that would be great!

Hello there,

Thank you for clarification. However, you are asking for the search to function without taking any parameters into account thats provided by users, and just return all tours. This is actually built to display the results based on the “dates” you set inside “Dates and Prices” field you fill in while creating tours with “dates and prices” tab, which is created as variable product. So I am afraid this is not built into the theme and overriding it on theme will create many unhappy users who are utilizing this feature to display the results based on actual data they enter in the date field.

  1. You have the possibility to set columns as 2 / 3/ 4 columns for search bar if you are just concerned about the “look” of it, and recreating the function for that will be an overkill when you infect want to “bypass” it.

  2. You can also replace this with “price range” which the users can actually search by and will show actual results based on it, and additionally the look will remain exact same as your current display.

Perhaps not exactly the answer you were looking for but I hope this gives you option to make the best use of this.

Thank you

Hi Sanjeev,

Thanks. In that case, I have 2 questions:

Is it fine to change existing simple products into variable products?
I don’t see the “Dates and Prices” field or tab when I create a new variable product but I found this on this support site: https://www.support.waituk.com/hc/en-us/articles/115003533705-Entrada-Tours-Attributes-Variations but I’m not entirely clear yet. It says: ‘The dates are the variation type and you can only use dates as your attributes and its variations to create the variations of “Dates and Prices”.’
If I fill in ‘duration’ as Attributes (since I need to fill in an attribute first), can I simply put ‘All days’?

And then under ‘Variations’ > “All days” >

Start date: 2018-01-01

End date: 2028-12-31

Tour: available

When performing a search from the home page, and selecting a specific month (::start_month_year_selectbox function), this doesn’t bring up this new variable tour yet.

Can you see what I’m missing here?

Thanks,

Stone
